From a chance discovery in glaucoma research to a hormone-free peptide formula: why there are now two ways to full lashes and which serum suits you, VITRALASH or VITRALASH Classic.
There are products whose story you need to know to understand why they work so well. Lash serum is one of them. Its story doesn't begin in a cosmetics lab but in ophthalmology, and it hasn't finished being told yet.
A happy accident: the discovery of 2007
In the mid-2000s, ophthalmologists treated patients with raised intraocular pressure using so-called prostaglandin analogues. In the process, they noticed something unexpected: the treated patients' lashes became longer, denser and darker. What ended up in study protocols as a side effect was quickly recognised by the cosmetics industry as an opportunity. In 2007, the first lash serums containing prostaglandin derivatives came onto the market, and they fundamentally changed lash care.
A look at the lash cycle explains why this works. Every lash goes through three phases: the growth phase (anagen phase), a short transition phase and a resting phase, at the end of which it falls out and makes room for a new one. Unlike the hair on your head, a lash only grows for a few weeks, which is why it naturally stays short. Prostaglandin derivatives extend the growth phase, so the lash simply has more time to grow. The result: visibly more length and density.
Our VITRALASH Classic follows exactly this tradition. It is the proven route, tested millions of times, and for many users it has been the reliable choice for years.
Cosmetic research did not stand still
As effective as the classic version is, there is one point on which opinions differ: prostaglandin derivatives are hormone-like active ingredients. Most users tolerate them without any problems, but some react with redness or irritation at the edge of the eyelid, and others want to avoid hormone-like substances on principle, for example during pregnancy and breastfeeding, when use is advised against anyway.
Almost twenty years after the prostaglandin discovery, cosmetic research has found an answer: signal peptides.
Peptides: the new generation of lash care
Peptides are short protein building blocks that act as messengers in the skin. They dock onto the hair follicle and send targeted signals there: more nutrient supply, more keratin formation, firmer anchoring of the lash. The effect therefore targets the same place as the classic, the lash growth cycle, only via a different, hormone-free mechanism.
That is exactly what the new VITRALASH stands for, our lash serum on a 100% peptide basis. A whole complex of active ingredients works inside it:
Peptides from pea stem cells (Pisum Sativum Peptide) promote lash growth and strength and protect the cells of the hair follicle. Biotechnologically obtained signal peptides (sh-Oligopeptides and sh-Polypeptides) support cell regeneration and collagen synthesis at the lash line. Caffeine stimulates microcirculation, so the follicle is better supplied. Hyaluronic acid in several molecular sizes provides moisture and plumps the base of the lashes. Added to this are panthenol for regeneration, bisabolol from chamomile for soothing and vitamins C and E as antioxidant cell protection.
The result speaks for itself: after 4 to 6 weeks of regular use, lashes appear visibly longer, denser and stronger. Many users also report a darker, denser lash line. And some even tell us the result surpasses the prostaglandin-based serum they used before. Best of all, the formula is so gentle that it is also suitable for sensitive eyes and sensitive skin.
VITRALASH or VITRALASH Classic: which one suits you?
Both serums are top sellers in our range, and both have their place.
VITRALASH Classic is the right choice if you trust the proven active principle of the first generation and tolerate it well. VITRALASH, the hormone-free, peptide-based version, is your choice if you have sensitive eyes or sensitive skin, consciously want to avoid hormone-like active ingredients or simply want to work with the latest generation of lash care.
Both are equally easy to use: apply once a day in the evening to the clean, dry lash line, like an eyeliner. With the hormone-free VITRALASH, you can increase to twice a day from the second week if it is well tolerated.
